I guess.

Or not. It’s a little difficult to get excited about anything right now, even things that I acknowledge are exciting. So perhaps the celebration will take place after, you know, the whole terrifying crisis is over (please God let it be over), but in the meantime I’ll announce that….

…I passed my French exam.

[insert polite applause]

For those of you who have no idea why I took a French exam or why this matters, well, many many years ago, I decided I would do a PhD in Second Temple Jewish history. Really, what I decided was that I would start doing a PhD in Second Temple Jewish history, and that I’d see what happened along the way. So the main things that happened along the way were four children (those are the good parts), as well as numerous other things (some less good than others), and to make many dumb chapters of a long story short, it’s been 11 years, and I have finished neither my PhD, nor my MA.

But now I will (finish my MA, I mean). In January.

[polite applause]

In case you haven’t figured this out, taking my French exam is the thing I was supposed to do last week, that OOPS got pushed off because of the whole “R having a stroke” thing, so I did it yesterday instead. And Professor Awesome already marked it, and the department administrator told me I passed. I gotta get hold of my high school French teacher so I can let her know, since those two years were the only formal training I ever had.

So anyway, when I’m in a more celebratory mood, I’ll notify everyone, and we’ll pass around the champagne.

That is GREAT news. I’m so happy to hear it. You deserve that MA! After all this time of picking away at it! You’ll have the piece of paper! Yay!

Also — who knew you speak French? I learn new things (about you) (almost) every day.

So, nu when do we get to celebrate for real?
